Documents You Need When Buying Property in Punjab

November 3, 2026 · Gulf Associate

Property paperwork in Punjab can look confusing, but most deals come down to a few key documents. Knowing what to ask for protects you from fraud and disputes.

1. Ownership proof (registry or fard)

The seller should be able to show the registered ownership document or the current fard (record of rights) for the property. This is the single most important document in any purchase.

2. CNIC copies of both parties

Valid CNIC copies of the buyer and seller are needed for the agreement and the transfer process. Always verify the CNIC belongs to the person you are dealing with.

3. Written sale agreement

The agreement should clearly record the property description, agreed price, payment schedule, possession date, and responsibilities of each party.

4. Tax and dues clearance

Ask about property tax and any outstanding dues connected to the property. Clear dues before transfer avoids surprises.

5. Transfer documents

The final step happens at the relevant land revenue office, where ownership is officially transferred to the buyer’s name.
